New Year & 5 New Councils to be added to SEPP 70

January 2018

Welcome 2018!  JSA is celebrating the New Year, especially the NSW government’s plan to amend the State Environmental Planning Policy No 70 Affordable Housing (Revised Schemes), otherwise known as SEPP 70, to include five new Councils – Randwick City, Inner West, Northern Beaches, City of Ryde and City of Canada Bay.

The expansion of SEPP 70 will allow more councils to more systematically require contributions from developments in their areas that will be used to create more affordable rental housing for very low, low and moderate income households where it is needed.

Over many years, JSA has provided expert research and strategic advice to both Inner West Council and the City of Ryde including comprehensive analyses of housing market conditions and the household types in greatest need within each local government area.

The NSW Department of Planning and Environment is accepting comments and submissions on the proposed changes to SEPP 70 until the 31 January 2018.
