Inner West Council approves Affordable Housing Policy

At its 28 March Council Meeting, the Inner West Council approved its city-leading Affordable Housing Policy, which will make sure that all major redevelopments provide a reasonable share of affordable rental housing. This is critical amid the rapid gentrification of the Inner West and the fact that no new market delivered housing will otherwise be affordable to low and moderate income households.

JSA carried out extensive and detailed research and analysis on need and supply of affordable housing across the Inner West. The evidence provided clear justification for Council to actively seek to increase the supply of affordable housing through its planning instruments and policies, including through value capture methods.
