JSA has been engaged to prepare a Social Impact Assessment (SIA), undertake community engagement and prepare an Engagement Report for a proposed Health and Wellbeing Precinct within the Innovation Campus of the University of Wollongong that will include a Residential Aged Care Facility, Retirement Village with Independent Living Units, Early Learning Centre, UOW Education and Research spaces and landscaped public open space areas.
The SIA will identify and assess likely positive and adverse social impacts and propose mitigations where appropriate. It will also assess access to services and facilities under Clauses 93 and 94 of SEPP (Housing) 2021. The SIA will outline the likely population change from the proposed development and will consider supply and demand for seniors housing, housing affordability of the proposed development, crime context; as well as the need for and provision of relevant community facilities, open space and transport, including assessment of accessibility.
Engagement during the pre-exhibition period for the SSDA informed and sought feedback from the community and relevant stakeholders about the proposal. The project team engaged with State government agencies, Wollongong City Council, industry stakeholders, local Aboriginal community, potential future operators of the early learning centre and aged care facility, UOW staff, Innovation Campus tenants, commercial and residential neighbours, and the wider community.
